ISMB18

MECOS at ISMB18

From July 18th to 21st, MECOS actively contributed to the magnetic bearing conference ISMB18 in Lyon in France.

The conference provides a platform for the industry to exchange the latest research results, present industrial case studies, create synergies between the industry and university and to make the magnetic bearing technology known to a wider audience.

MECOS presented the paper “Generalized Modal Decoupling Control for Active Magnetic Bearings”, which details a way to greatly simplify the design of the controller to allow for much more sophisticated rotor dynamic designs by independently controlling the decoupled mode.

The presented transformation coordinate system rendered the task of control design substantially easier because it achieves true mode separation. Essentially, the proposed method is a generalisation and improvement of existing decoupling methods such as tilting-translational control, therefore it is widely applicable to the vast majority of magnetic bearing control problems.

We look back to the conference with great success and it was our pleasure to meet with the industry and to present our advancements in active magnetic bearing technology.
