MECOS sensors are the result of longstanding experience with eddy current sensor technology and are available in different sizes for a wide range of shaft diameters. They exactly meet the requirements of AMBs such as wide operating temperature range, high precision, insensitivity to external magnetic fields ruggedness and low cost.
Building on the experience with eddy current sensors, MECOS has gone one step ahead with the development of the patented Transverse Flux Sensor (TFS). The TFS consists of coils that are etched on a printed circuit board (PCB) and may be used for position measurement in axial and radial directions as well as for angular position. The PCB being the only component of this novel sensor - no active electronic components are present - cost can be lowered dramatically and sensor size is very small.
In the past two years, MECOS has taken the TFS technology out of the lab and successfully integrated in the MMCS06 magnetic bearing system: five axes as well as the angular position of the shaft are measured using a TFS.
