20 years of MECOS
This year marks two special anniversaries: Establishment of the company by Dr. Alfons Traxler in 1988 and the move to our current location at Industriestrasse in 1998.

Dr. Alfons Traxler has founded Mecos Traxler AG back in 1988 with the vision of developing digital active magnetic bearing technology into industrial grade serial products and has stepped, after years of teaching and research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, out of academia and into industry. The first project to mark the company’s history was the development of a spindle for high-speed cutting. Our customer, IBAG from Zürich, Switzerland chose MECOS as a partner and pioneered the used of magnetic bearings in this very demanding application.

Subsequently, MECOS built and tested magnetic bearing systems for a broad range of prototypes in order to demonstrate the bearing’s capabilities in various applications ranging from textile spindles to vacuum pumps. The continuous growth resulting from these activities led to the need for more space and the company moved to the new offices located at Industriestrasse 26 in 1998.

The breakthrough came with the development of the magnetic bearing system for a CO2 – blower used in power lasers manufactured by Trumpf of Ditzingen, Germany. Magnetic bearings lived up to their expectations ensuring clean operation of the laser over the entire lifetime making Trumpf a regular customer of our products. As a consequence, half a floor of manufacturing space was added in 2000.

The company has been growing ever since expanding the customer base as well as the product portfolio. Recent milestones certainly are the integration of magnetic bearing and motor controller (MMC-line) in 2002 as well as development of integrated spindle systems (MMCS-line) in 2006.
