Turbo Blowers
This radial turbo blower for CO2 gas is at the heart of very powerful lasers for cutting metal sheets up to 25 mm thickness. The design challenge was to minimize hydrocarbon contamination leading to a construction where Active Magnetic Bearing operate on the process side requiring leak-tight construction. Contamination through outgassing was also a major concern that had to be addressed by focusing on choice of materials and assembly processes. To date this blower has an installed base of over 8000 units, highlighting MECOS experience with handling volume production.

Keeping the Gases Clean Cleanness and reliability are of very high importance for this application. In close team cooperation with our OEM customer we developed a system, which has been manufactured since 1999 in volume production for a worldwide market. Magnetic Bearings are oil-free, maintenance-free, allow for high speed and, by using a digital control system, adaptive algorithms as well as switching between control schemes can be accomplished easily.
